10.7.5 Gap analysis

Gap analysis is a strategic planning tool used to assess the difference, or “gap,” between a company’s current performance and its desired performance or goals. This analysis helps organizations identify

what they need to do to bridge this gap and reach their objectives. Gap analysis is applied in various areas, such as business processes, performance, information systems, and compliance.

Types of gaps

  • Performance gaps
  • Profit gaps
  • Product gaps
  • Manpower gaps

The main purpose of gap analysis is to help organizations develop an understanding of the gaps in their performance so that they can create effective strategies to reduce or eliminate these gaps and achieve organizational goals. It does so by highlighting the organization’s shortcomings as well as its opportunities for growth.
